A wireless keyboard helps computer users with low vision

INSIDER TIP: The Keys-U-See wireless keyboard and mouse combo makes typing a snap for seniors with large print and high-contrast colors.

For a loved one aging in place or homebound during recovery, a computer can be a vital lifeline to the outside world and a great way to enable their independent lifestyle. Now that you don't have to be a specialist to operate one, and an adventurous senior with a computer and internet connection can access the news, keep in touch with distant family and loved ones through email or chat, and even order groceries without leaving their home. Unfortunately, low vision due to macular degeneration or other visual impairment can make it a discouraging ordeal to type, especially for those for whom using a computer isn't second nature.

Most modern computers have settings that allow you to magnify the screen to deal with vision issues, but what about settings to magnify the keyboard? Keys-U-See is a full-sized keyboard and mouse combination made especially for the visually impaired. Its 104 full-sized keys are marked in 41-point type, 400% larger than the print on standard keyboard keys, and come in a high-contrast yellow and black color scheme that makes it easy to distinguish the bold letters from the key background at a quick glance. It also features 12 pre-programmed "hot keys" to allow one-touch access to frequently used features and programs.

The Keys-U-See keyboard and mouse runs on 4 AA batteries and requires one open USB connection for the wireless receiver.

Refresher: A large-print, high-contrast Keys-U-See keyboard will keep your loved one typing away without eyestrain or frustration.

Extra Credit: Our website is filled with solutions for independent, visually impaired seniors, from the Dignity Prescription Label Magnifier to talking books available from your local library.
