A Talking Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Takes the Confusion out of Home Emergencies

INSIDER TIP:
The Kidde Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm uses voice alerts to indicate the exact danger that is present in the home.

An alarm sounding can be an upsetting event for many seniors, especially when it happens while he or she is immersed in an activity or resting. Overly sensitive alarms can be both annoying and cause unnecessary distress; everyone is familiar with alarms that are too sensitive and end up being ignored, or worse, disconnected. However, smoke detectors remain essential safety equipment for the home, and because of the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning, North America's number one cause of accidental deaths, detecting carbon monoxide is equally important. Ensuring both of these devices operate properly is crucial for those aging at home, who spend increased amounts of time indoors in recovery or who have limited mobility.

The Kidde Talking Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm combines both of these two functions in one device that is easy to install, maintain and, most of all, understand. To remove confusion, it compliments the traditional 85-decibel alarm with the appropriate voice announcements, such as:

  • "Fire"
  • "Carbon Monoxide"
  • "Low Battery"

In addition to these alerts, the alarm comes equipped with typical smoke alarm features; a green LED indicates normal operation, a red LED indicates a malfunction, and an "End-of-Life" warning indicates the alarm should be replaced. The alarm also features an Electrochemical CO sensor that remains stable in the face of humidity or temperature changes and resists degradation due to household gasses like ammonia, which can cause other alarms to sound unnecessarily.

The Kidde Talking Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm is battery operated and can run up to year on three AA batteries in normal conditions. It comes with a 5-year warranty.

Refresher: A talking alarm can make the difference between safety and confusion in case of an emergency in the home.
