The Cutting-Edge in Cognitive Rehab

 Get Mindful...Our editors were very excited when we found SR-Cognition, one of the newest solutions for helping adults with neurological impairment as a result of Alzheimer's, dementia, stroke or traumatic brain injury. Created by Joanna Boyer and Terri Tarnoff Snyder, two certified speech-language pathologists, SR-Cognition is a multi-sensory toolkit that includes cards with both present-day photographs of real-life situations and depictions of everyday objects, two workbooks filled with re-usable and reproducible pages of activities and a dry erase marker—and all of it comes in a portable box! The cards and workbooks use visual, tactile and auditory input that all work together to develop or repair neurological skills.
The SR-Cognition comes in at $325. The company also produces some smaller á la carte items that you can add to the SR-Cognition or just use on their own:
- Safety and awareness cards ($40). Dangerous acts, like riding a motorcycle sans helmet, are shown on cards along with questions asking what exactly is dangerous and how to avoid the situation.
- Problem-solving photo cards ($40). Images in this series show nonsensical acts, such as kayaking with barbells, and ask what is illogical about the situation.
- Confrontational naming cards ($40). Depictions and photos of everyday objects ask the viewer to name the object.
