Vista Ridge Nursing and Rehab is located in peaceful Lewisville, north of Dallas. The sheltered entrance dominates the red brick exterior. Flowers and trees grace the front lawn surrounding the parking lot. The facility has a convenient location near Vista Ridge Regional Mall and numerous restaurants, yet it is distant enough from major roads to retain its serene atmosphere. The brightly lit entryway features seating areas and distinctive white columns. The large nurses' station at the front provides an excellent vantage point of each hallway. The hallways are wide and equipped with safety rails. Lighting throughout the facility is soft and natural. The residents who were socializing in the common areas seemed to be well acquainted; two of them were in the midst of a spirited conversation over seating arrangements. The entertainment areas feature comfortable Queen Anne furnishings and red and brown patterned carpet. Paintings of Grecian vases adorn the walls. The modern dining area is somewhat institutional. There are two sunny patio areas that feature plentiful seating. Natural light fills the residents' small rooms. In addition to a hospital bed, which is attractively designed with a wooden headboard, each room also features built-in drawers and a cable outlet. During the tour, our guide stepped away to help a resident who was having difficulty walking. Gold stars mark the doors of residents who are prone to falls; this "falling star" system provides a reminder to staff to check on those residents frequently. To further facilitate safety, the staff is also mindful of keeping residents' rooms free of potential tripping hazards.
