Lakewood Village is situated on an expansive forty-six acres of wooded areas and lush green foliage. The outdoor area boasts a covered porch overlooking a private lake, where residents gather for barbeques. The picturesque refuge also features abundant trails and garden paths. The interior is wallpapered in neutral colors. Furniture throughout the building is contemporary yet comfortable. Residents' rooms are bright and spacious. Each has a grand view of the wooded grounds. Although the property is located in an urban area, the atmosphere seems rural. The dining room, also used for scheduled activities, is elegantly furnished with cherrywood tables and chairs. Residents gather in the common room for musical performances by fellow residents as well as outside musical guests. An abundance of windows allow for plentiful natural light throughout the building. The hallways are spacious enough to accommodate residents who use wheelchairs.Lakewood Village residents enjoy independence. The onsite Health Care Center provides quality care from caregivers who residents know and trust. The staff organizes various field trips including weekly shopping trips to Kohl's and ice cream outings to Ben & Jerry's. Other mainstays at Lakewood are morning fitness classes, book clubs and Bible study. Expressing her love for this community, one resident exclaimed, "What a wonderful blessing from God. We are enjoying a new environment, a new community and a new beginning—another spring in life!" The interaction we witnessed between residents echoes this sentiment. Lakewood Village is unique in that management has eliminated the comprehensive entrance fee, instead having residents pay monthly rates according to the level of care they require and the size of the unit they choose. Independent living apartments range from $980 to $2,813; add $340 per month for double occupancy units. The rates for assisted living units range from $1,700 to $2,870 per month with an added $500 to $700 for double occupancy units; residents' level of care is determined through a thorough care assessment prior to admission. Lastly, skilled nursing facility units are rented for shared or private occupancy at a daily rate of $120 to $200.
