Tandy Village is one of the few Dallas facilities that accepts recipients funded through the Community Based Alternatives (CBA) and Community Care for the Aged and Disabled (CCAD) programs. The facility, a former school, is a quiet retreat in an outlying downtown neighborhood. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to flood the interior. All windows are covered with a mesh screen to soften the glare, a thoughtful feature that aids residents with visual deficiencies. A playful and cheery environment, the interior is fashioned into a town square where street signs direct residents to their respective halls.

Both single and double occupancy rooms are available. The double occupancy rooms are divided by a wall, allowing maximum privacy. All rooms feature private closets and additional storage space. Aside from the tiled kitchenette, each room is fully carpeted. The secured Alzheimer's unit houses sixteen rooms with similar accommodations. The several spacious common areas are perfect for social visits and weekly activities. One popular common area is "The Village"; an ice cream parlor, a museum, a library and a big-screen TV are among its main attractions! A stage in "The Village" is used for live performances. Two entrées are featured daily. Snacks, assorted juices and coffee are available around the clock. Residents in the Alzheimer's unit have a separate dining area. One good-humored resident accompanied us on part of our tour, entertaining us with pleasant conversation before sauntering off in another direction.
