Sterling House on the Parkway, formerly Merrill Gardens of Denton, rests on winding Lillian Miller Parkway. Centrally located in Denton, it offers the conveniences of nearby medical facilities as well as shopping centers. A cordial staff greeted us upon entering the facility, which is bright with artificial lighting. Plentiful seating areas create a comfortable atmosphere. Residents warm themselves by the fireplaces on cold winter evenings and enjoy the sunlight streaming in from the windows. A mixture of artificial and live plants throughout the building adda touches of greenery.

Residents' suites are bright and roomy. Outside each room, residents organize individual displays to introduce others to their personal histories. Hallways are wide and neat. The dining room is spacious enough to easily accommodate wheelchair users. The dinner menu is posted outside the dining hall. An alternative selection is always offered. The lounges and libraries all feature ample seating. On movie nights, residents gather in the fully equipped house theater. Residents seem to love the theater furniture and the authenticity of the popcorn and Coke bar. It is definitely a house favorite!

Walking paths set among the gardens are a peaceful escape. Pretty flowerbeds, blossoming trees and shaped hedges pepper the outdoor landscape. The activity director has arranged a special music therapy program with students from the University of Texas, an activity enjoyed by all. Many residents have become computer savvy through "Touch Town", a senior email program. The staff and residents of Sterling House seemed very comfortable with one another. The staff is familiar not only with the residents but with their families as well; we observed the staff greeting many of the visitors by name.
