Bentley Manor is located in a once bustling neighborhood that has settled down. It is close to Trinity Medical Center, an older medical center, and The Bentley, an independent living facility that has no corporate connection to the assisted living unit.

Inside a nursing station doubles as help desk to an immediate right of the entry, while a small living room is located on the left. The ambiance of facility is homey and comfortable. Three-quarters of the residents have memory impairment; the majority use either walkers or wheelchairs to get around the facility.

Both rooms and studios are available. All housing options are well-designed, utilizing the space well with plenty of space for walkers or wheelchairs. Each room has large window with drapes. During our tour, lunch was being eaten by residents who happily chatted away with one another. Although not assigned, most residents have their “seats.” Diners enjoy large round tables, high ceilings and large bay windows that look out onto the backyard. A covered patio is adjacent to the dining room with outdoor tables and chairs highlighted by potted plants. Staff is proud of their food service; all breads are made from scratch daily, veggies are always steamed for maximum health benefits and fresh fruit is offered daily. Friday’s fried catfish platter is a hit among the residents. Seven daily entree choices and table service by CNAs rounds out the above-board offerings.

The carpeted common room sports a piano and large-screen TV; it also doubles as chapel. The library overlooks the front entry with plenty of books on shelves; the area is also used for card games. The activity area is partially carpeted with a full kitchen, which is used during the mulitiude of baking activities offered. The activity director is present Sunday through Thursday, with a substitute available on Friday. Sidewalks surrounding the property are perfect for residents who want to stretch their legs.

Residents appear to enjoy the staff’s company and are greeted by name by management. There are always four caregivers plus one medical aide on duty at all times. The day staff includes two nurses and one LVN, every day for twelve hours. Families we met were enthusiastic about the high-quality care they felt their loved ones received. All staff must undertake a 40-hour training program before working on floor with residents. Guests are welcome to stay in the respite room—if it is available—without a fee. Therapists are contracted from an outside company and brought in to aid residents.
