Avalon Quarterway is one of several Alzheimer's facilities owned by Avalon Residential Care Homes, a nonprofit agency that offers care within homelike settings. Tall cottonwood trees shade the charming home, which is set in a peaceful area.

During our visit, the rosebushes in the landscaped yard were in full bloom. Residents were enjoying an afternoon iced tea social on the patio. Residents often spend time watching TV in the den. Weekly field trips include neighborhood strolls and picnics. We were impressed by the vivacious nature of the residents. Several friendly residents related stories of their past to us. The staff members are attentive and caring. Avalon Quarterway possesses a definite air of family.

The attractively decorated interior imparts a sense of home. Silk flower arrangements brighten the common room, bathed in warm earth tones and furnished with well-maintained sofas and chairs. The lighting in the den is a bit dim. The single hallway is short and wide enough for wheelchair users. Although residents' rooms are small, they are flooded with sunlight, which creates a more spacious feeling. Oak bedside tables and hanging art are in every room. The cozy formal dining area features a beautiful crystal chandelier, linen tablecloths and freshly picked flowers from the garden. The variety of homemade options at breakfast, which include oatmeal, eggs, pancakes and the "omelet station" on Fridays, has made it a favorite mealtime.
