Residents of Autumn Leaves enjoy spectacular views, thanks to the facility's hilltop location overlooking White Rock Lake. The stucco building sits on fancifully named Emerald Isle Drive, in a picturesque Dallas neighborhood that features several historic homes. The leafy canopy above the oak trees that surround the building is a playground for squirrels. Active walking club residents frequent an extensive trail that encircles the nearby lake. Residents are encouraged to suggest new activities to supplement their favorites, which include bingo, happy hour, board games, holiday celebrations and religious services.

Our guide greeted residents by name as we toured the home, prompting them to stop and chat; jokes and outbursts of laughter punctuated the conversations. Several residents offered strong recommendations of the facility. Residents socialized animatedly among the common areas—we spotted one gentleman doing an impromptu jig! The home's interior was under renovation but we were informed that the new décor would include cherrywood crown moldings, green fabric wallpaper and gold and blue carpet. Sunshine supplements the brass and frosted glass sconces that light the rooms and wide hallways. Light brown carpet extends from wall to wall in residents' large rooms, each of which boasts a balcony or private patio. Bathtubs with low sides in residents' rooms helps ease bathing difficulties.

An expansive glass wall showcases lovely views in the spacious dining hall. Bleached oak floors and comfortable wheeled chairs add practical touches to the elegant room. Hearty offerings include breaded chicken, mashed potatoes and baby carrots followed by buttermilk pie. A salad bar displaying brightly colored vegetables tempts health-minded residents.
