The Clare Bridge Daily Path provides structure and activities each day designed to meet specific needs of those with dementia, while the Clare Bridge Dining Program, designed by a gerontologist and registered dietitian, helps residents retain the ability to enjoy and master the daily dining experience.

Broadway Plaza at Pecan Park is an opulent property at the corner of North Fielder Road and Wright Street. A wrought iron fence surrounds the park-like setting of towering trees and colored shrubbery. Inside the main building, lavish seating areas with rich blue, maroon and green upholstered chairs beckon residents to gather. The walls are hung with elegant paintings of landscapes and floral arrangements. Although residents with Alzheimer's share the same staff and activity calendar with assisted living residents, their rooms are located in a separate building on the same campus.

Residents furnish and decorate their moderately sized rooms to suit their tastes. The grand staircase in the lobby leads to the upstairs dining area and common room. The dining area, an attractive arrangement of upholstered chairs and oak tables, has a "resident kitchen," which is used for cooking and baking activities. The kitchen staff prepares menus that include various Mexican and American entrées. The main common area on the first floor accommodates large group activities, while the upstairs area is a quieter refuge with a TV and lounge furniture. We observed residents engaged in activities throughout the facility; some were enjoying potato salad and shrimp entrées in the dining area; others gathered in front of the television; and one group was spotted lounging on patio furniture enjoying the unusually warm winter day.

The hallways are bright and airy. Soft artificial lighting and natural light are prevalent throughout the building. Memory-enhancing games, which include "Resident Stories" and word games, stimulate cognitive faculties while fostering familiarity with one another. Trips to Wal-Mart, Nordstrom and Babe's Chicken are resident favorites. We observed many active residents at Broadway Plaza gathering in the hallways and chatting while they walked together. The staff seemed very attentive, greeting each passing resident by name.
