Gold lamé wallpaper, deep chocolate carpet and a white domed ceiling set the stage for a unique first impression of Harlee Manor. The facility's unusual lobby is small and circular and houses two large blue velvet armchairs, a mahogany grandfather clock and matching receptionist's desk. A lifelike papier-mâché statue of a nurse wearing an old-fashioned uniform greets visitors. The building's modern facade is original, too, with a combination of wood shingles, aluminum, brick and stone surrounded by well-groomed shrubs, trees and flowers. Several residents were sitting on outdoor benches enjoying the sun at the time of our visit. Residents at Harlee Manor enjoy bright, moderately sized rooms with light wood closets, chests and nightstands. They are encouraged to decorate their spaces with personal belongings and knickknacks. There are two dining rooms, the smaller of which is used for residents who need feeding assistance. One of the dining rooms opens to a delightful outdoor patio area with plenty of shade, flowers and seating. Opposite the dining room is a comfortable living room area with attractive couches and a piano. Staff here seems very friendly and genuinely interested in helping the residents. During our visit, one resident who was recuperating in the skilled nursing facility requested that his wife, who lives in the adjoining assisted living facility, join him for lunch—and we were happy to learn that he was immediately accommodated.
