Silver Stream Center takes it name from a now-extinct creek that once inhabited the property. The historical mansion contains mostly administrative offices and a secure addition houses rehab and skilled nursing residents. The original stone gate surrounds the facility, shaded by mature oak and maple trees. Mums hug a wishing well in the parking lot, maintaining an old-world charm. A canopied concrete patio, accessible from the first floor dining room, features a wooden trellis and wrought-iron furniture. One can easily visualize women in crisp white gloves drinking tea and discussing high society here! A glass-enclosed patio behind the building invites relaxation. A play area for visiting children and a conference room that residents can reserve for family visits speaks to the importance that Silver Stream places on family. Four dining rooms, two on each floor, have TVs and are also used for activities. Real china and round tables make for an upscale dining atmosphere that encourages mealtime conversations. All food is prepared on-site, lunch being the main meal. One menu includes baked ham, quiche, red bliss potatoes and seasonal berries. Ice cream is a daily staple. Activities range from word games, bingo and monthly birthday celebrations to arts and crafts, holiday parties, sing-alongs and religious services. Pizza making provides a fun culinary adventure on Friday's activity schedule. Once a month, residents and staff members share a breakfast buffet, which fosters a familial environment. The management team has a philosophy that the facility is the residents' home, and that all staff members, including themselves, are just visitors. Residents' semiprivate accommodations hold up to four beds per room, but with photographs and other small items, they manage to make the space their own. All rooms have linoleum floors and dark wood furniture, with a tray table near each bed. The building is perfectly situated to receive natural light all day.
