Formerly The Fountains of Logan Square East, The Watermark at Logan Square East is located in busy Center City. Close to museums, churches and historical landmarks, the towering facility is ideally situated for cultural exploration. The Watermark offers free shuttle service through the surrounding neighborhood, much like an upscale hotel catering to its guests. In addition to frequenting nearby attractions, residents love welcoming entertainers, including pianists and DJs offering karaoke. Nonalcoholic happy hours are also popular with this social set.A resort-like feel permeates the interior. Even the lobby is extravagant: an original oil painting of Logan Circle graces the cherrywood walls. The auditorium is truly majestic, with wall sconces and a magnificent dance floor where residents can learn ballroom or line dancing. Town Square, the independent living section, contains a library with a gas fireplace and a huge selection of books and magazines. Town Square's dining room easily rivals any four-star restaurant in appearance. Chandeliers and polished brass and glass accessories add to the unique elegance that fills this facility. Just beyond the dining room, a charming café leads to an award-winning garden. Assisted living residents have access to all common spaces within the independent living section, as well as the same full calendar of activities. The Inn houses the assisted living accommodations. Most resident rooms have breathtaking views of the Philadelphia skyline. The dining room, with high-hat lighting and a gas fireplace, serves mouthwatering selections. Baked tilapia, chicken cacciatore and beef brisket with assorted breads, vegetables, soups and quiches were on the menu when we visited. On Sunday mornings, all residents come together to share bagels and lox. Residents often congregate in the community room to watch TV by the fireplace or exercise in the fitness center. Concerts on tape, wine and cheese socials and art classes offer intellectual stimulation.Residents with dementia live in private rooms in a secure area known as The Gardens. With high ceilings and tons of storage space, rooms in this section are pleasant and comfortable. Meals are served on elegant china in the spacious dining room. Both the dining room and living room in The Gardens host activities such as arts and crafts, movies and monthly pet therapy. The décor, with oil paintings and three-dimensional artwork, is visually stimulating. The Springs is the facility's skilled nursing component. The private rooms far outshine the ordinary utilitarian accommodations that are common in nursing units. With big-screen TVs, colorful couch cushions and silk trees, these rooms could easily attract high-budget travelers. The semiprivate rooms are also impressive, with high ceilings and new furniture. Both floors have their own multipurpose rooms and dining areas—one for higher functioning residents and one for those who require assistance at mealtimes. The Springs boasts several outdoor patios, although residents seem to prefer the scenic driving tours that incorporate their favorite local spots. Other activities include morning stretch, games, clubs and trivia.
