In Simpson House's early years, it was customary for new residents to donate teacups from their personal collection. The marvelous display here not only stuns viewers but also adds a special sense of occasion to residents' tea parties. The interior maintains the grandeur of the original architecture, but with modern accents and renovations. The intricate wood moldings and colossal mirror in the Terrazzo Room appear antique. In a unique alteration, many old laundry chutes were fitted with stained glass, which is now backlit. Water cascades from a marble fountain amid a peaceful solarium. Even the waiting area is distinctive, with fresh flowers and soft music. The community benefits from a location adjacent to Fairmount Park, with its recreation trails, picnic sites, waterways and golf courses. Within the campus, residents often congregate in several enclosed porches to play cards or visit with friends. The skilled nursing facility, which includes two secure dementia units, sits in a new structure connected to the main building. Tasteful private and semiprivate rooms provide plenty of space for personal belongings. The skilled nursing and assisted living units share a kitchen in the main building. There are two dining rooms, one of which is used for residents who require assistance eating. A beautiful chapel hosts regular religious services, open to all residents. The large library, with stained glass ceilings and original woodwork, also draws a large crowd.
