Positioned on a busy street in a residential neighborhood, this posh senior community is peaceful within its borders. Mature trees shield the campus from its neighbors. Grassy areas and small shrubs dot the land. Burgundy, hunter green and beige tones saturate the facility, starting in the main lobby. Residents often sit here, near the windows, waiting for rides to the outside community. Scattered area rugs warm the tile floor, and realistic artwork lines the walls. A security office with TVs, connected to closed-circuit cameras throughout the facility, sits adjacent to the reception desk. The first floor contains a spacious common room with a large fireplace and a huge dining room for independent and assisted living residents. A private dining room accommodates special meals with family members. Dark wood furniture and large windows make this room stylish, comfortable and bright. Entrées include herb roasted pork loin with peach cilantro salsa, beef and blue cheese sandwiches, and baked chicken with carrots and cottage fried potatoes. Residents may order smaller portions if they wish. Takeout and room service are available, the latter for an extra fee.The independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities sit in connected buildings, all accessible from the main lobby. Studios, one bedrooms and two-bedroom apartments compose the independent living building. The upscale skilled nursing facility occupies two floors. Moderately sized rooms, each with a memory box, are well lit. This unit has its own smaller but well-appointed dining room. Private rehab rooms are located on the second floor. The assisted living facility has large, modern rooms, many with balconies. Stoves are unplugged, which is a wise precaution considering many residents have dementia. Activities vary by floor and population. Assisted living residents cook, exercise, play bingo and trivia games, sing, and attend socials and barbecues. The greenhouse attracts resident gardeners, inspired by the beautiful garden in the enclosed area just off the kitchen. Independent living residents take trips to Atlantic City, stores and malls and also exercise and attend religious services.Paul's Run employs over five hundred caring individuals. When we visited, we saw one resident who appeared to have difficulty speaking. When she approached the reception area holding her remote control, several staff members went out of their way to ascertain what she needed. They shortly discovered she needed new batteries, and fixed the problem promptly.
