Immaculate Mary Home is a skilled nursing facility that has one room reserved for adult day care services. The staff here fosters a community environment between residents and day care participants. In the afternoons, activities like bingo and occasional trips into the outside community integrate the groups. One benefit of attending a center within a nursing facility is the access to its services; nursing care is readily available, staff members are certified to administer medication and—there's a beauty salon on-site! Most participants have some form of dementia, and the programming reflects the sensitive needs of this population. Aromatherapy, pet therapy and memory enhancing activities all help to stimulate the senses. Mass occurs daily.The building is enhanced by beautiful stained glass windows, and even the grounds have a reverential feel. Religious statues peek out from the vast greenery. When we entered the program room, we found it to be sufficient for its purpose. One wall is lined entirely by windows, making the room light and airy. Cabinets and a big-screen TV run along another wall and there's a kitchen on the other end. Many of the recliners appeared new. The program is small, with a staff proportionate to the number of participants. They affectionately refer to themselves as "one big happy family.
