ElderWatch Plus provides a dynamic and nurturing environment to all seniors. The P.L.U.S. program, a collaboration between Kardon Institute for Arts Therapy and ElderWatch Plus, offers proactive programming for participants with early-stage dementia. Music therapy, singing, playing musical instruments and rhythm activities help enhance memory, coordination and expression; card and word games stimulate language, math and memory skills. Participants and the outside community both utilize the onsite therapy gym. The bright, spacious facility contains two activity rooms at the front, with large windows that face the street. The color scheme in most common areas is soft and appealing in lavender, light blue and peach tones. Participants, split into groups of four by level of functioning, partake in discussion groups, poetry reading, games, music, art, dance and cooking. Ongoing projects such as the horticulture club add a sense of continuity for participants. During our tour, we witnessed a lively exercise class. Both participants and staff appeared to be having a wonderful time!An adjacent restaurant supplies the center with a light breakfast and lunch; snacks are also provided in the dining room. Lunchtime trivia is a special time of day, when participants flaunt their knowledge and challenge themselves mentally. An enclosed brick patio, set up like a quaint sidewalk café with small tables and chairs, provides participants with a charming spot to relax after meals or any time of day.
