Fox Commons, a tan-colored building just across the road from Chandler Hall, a continuing care retirement community, houses the adult day care. The program provides a stimulating environment for older adults with physical or mental challenges. A circular drive looks grand before the imposing A-frame entrance. The program is based on the Quaker value of self-worth, and staff members, who are all certified to administer medication, treat participants with the respect that accompanies this philosophy. Care conferences are held with family members a month after enrollment, and then every two months, or as needed, beyond that. The interior is extremely clean and uncluttered. The large main room features a gorgeous quilt made by community residents on one of the walls. There's also a small kitchen area and several tables and chairs for meals and activities. Two smaller rooms are used for group activities and family meetings. A medium-sized studio is used for dance sessions. Two independent living apartments occupy the second floor. The local YMCA also finds a home in this building, welcoming both participants and members of the community to work out for a reasonable fee. And lastly, a kindergarten and day care center share the space, allowing for some fun intergenerational programs. The children often join in regularly scheduled programming for participants, which includes arts and crafts, poetry reading, aromatherapy, adaptive sports, music, dance, exercise, wellness discussions, cognitive exercises and reminiscence groups. Participants sometimes visit Chandler Hall to attend educational sessions geared toward independent and assisted living residents. External trips bring the group to area plays and museums.
