Bon Homie, which means "a friendly, good-natured disposition," adequately reflects the philosophy at this minimalist yet attractive ranch-style center. A family-owned and operated business, Bon Homie meets its participants' needs with the same level of care one would expect from loved ones. Set on a private lane off a major road, the center has easy access to the nearby community. A row of apple trees provides shade and ambience just opposite the entrance. Participants often sit and relax on the front patio. Plans are underway for the porch to be converted into a sunroom, allowing it to be enjoyed year-round. The interior is equally inviting, with abundant natural light and a sense of openness. TV lovers flock to the carpeted, comfortably furnished living area. A nutritious lunch and two snacks are served daily. Two activity rooms, one of which doubles as a dining area, allow space for participants to enjoy a wide variety of activities. Options include discussion groups, music therapy, horticulture, exercise, trivia games, themed parties, cooking, knitting and woodworking. Field trips are planned occasionally. Staffers encourage participants to broaden their interests and create new friendships through interaction and exploration. Bon Homie accepts adults eighteen and older who have major disabilities. This program is separate from the one for seniors, although they are occasionally integrated for certain activities.
