Senior Care of Horsham, located in a modern industrial area, is one of twenty Senior Care centers in the Northeast and Mississippi. The tree-encircled building is secured with a code for entry, and is conveniently situated near the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Pleasant staff members received us warmly at our visit, as if they were welcoming us into their own homes. The main room is large and has the feel of a living room, with furniture positioned in a semicircle. An RN is on-site five days a week. Two additional rooms, one spacious and the other cozy, are used for games and recreation. We observed a group of participants engaged in a game, and they appeared happy and involved. The activity program here is outstanding, and for the most part tailored to meet participants' unique needs. The seniors at this center appear more active than most fully functional adults! Some of the activities on their calendar include exercise and stretching, armchair aerobics, movement and pet therapies, arts and crafts, bingo, watching movies and singing karaoke. Participants with Alzheimer's or dementia can engage in special activities to help promote memory, such as word searches. In addition to enjoying frequent onsite entertainment, participants also venture into the community on a regular basis, going to parks, restaurants and community events. This center provides social services to families and caregivers, as well as referrals to podiatrists, dentists and other personal care administrators. Aramark provides an appetizing menu of meals and snacks. One day's selection included a hot roast beef sandwich, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, and apricots.
