Part of the larger Tel Hai Retirement Community, this adult day services program welcomes participants from all over Chester County. The state-of-the-art facility houses a multitiered day program that accommodates seniors in varying stages of dementia, from low to high cognitive functioning. The program supplements extensive Alzheimer's programming and residential care in the Neighborhood Club, Tel Hai's dementia unit. The airy interior boasts a spacious activity area. Participants have several options for lounging or socializing, including a fully furnished sunroom, a country-style kitchen, a lengthy porch overlooking the lake, and a patio and garden area. We were quite impressed with participants' budding tomato crop, which seems to be the house specialty!The program director, an RN with a long tenure at Tel Hai, leads an experienced group of staffers, all of whom struck us as good-humored and excited about program. Pet therapy, reminiscence exercises, tactile stimulation and rehab therapies are program staples; whirlpool spa treatments, nail care, beauty shop services and podiatry are fantastic complements. Other activities include exercise, walking, puzzles, bingo, word games, travel presentations, cooking and even intergenerational activities with children from the onsite child day care center. On the day of our visit, participants stepped into kitchen staff assistant roles and helped prepare a delectable entrée and fruit salad. The broad range of stimulating cognitive and physical activities offered here is reflective of Tel Hai's extensive experience with Alzheimer's and dementia care.
