Sunrise Assisted Living at Dresher, almost fully surrounded by a white wraparound porch, was recently built in the Victorian style that is signature to Sunrise communities. Rocking chairs line the porch, overlooking the attractively landscaped yards and abundant walking paths. Residents enjoy large family barbecues on the patio at the building's rear. Duncan, the facility's chocolate Lab, and Sandy, the house cat, are beloved by residents. Religious services, movies, socials, exercise, discussion groups and creative activities keep residents involved. Nature walks, drives and outings to nearby restaurants and malls are all a big hit.

During our visit, we found the lobby luxurious, reminiscent of a fancy hotel. A full-time concierge offers reception and guidance. An adjacent twenty-four hour bistro contains a jukebox and serves drinks, popcorn, pie and other tasty snacks. The main dining room sits just beyond the bistro, brightened by lush red carpet. A small private dining room accommodates residents and their guests. Common rooms, such as the library and a living room with a piano and working fireplace, invite resident congregation.

Residential suites are on the second floor. Many rooms mixed personal furnishings with pieces provided by the facility. Every room has a memory box. Rooms sit in clusters, each with a unique theme, such as equine, wine country and travel. The balcony on this level overlooks the lobby. The community room contains a big-screen TV and an activities cart for residents' amusement. The wellness center and an arts and crafts room also occupy this floor.

The third floor was designed for its low-vision residents using the Bradford View and features assistive devices, such as touch lamps and talking clocks along with design elements, such as linear patterns and contrasting colors. The facility works in close partnership with a low-vision support group and runs specialized activities. The third floor also houses the Reminiscence Neighborhood for residents with dementia. This secure unit has a Snoezelen room, a multisensory retreat from the busyness of everyday life. The life skills center, an electric fireplace and conversation cubes address the specific needs of this population. A large dining room, separated into three manageable sections, allows for close staff monitoring during mealtimes. Gardening is practiced in an enclosed patio.
