This attractive building stands in a quiet residential neighborhood. A fountain outside the entrance is surrounded by rocking chairs. Artwork, including prints, lithographs and tapestries, lines the walls throughout the facility. The reception area fronts a library with a small collection of books and chairs. A large seating spot hosts a baby grand piano, fish tank and large TV. Our tour guide explained that this area is often used for outside entertainers and that the gas fireplace draws in a crowd of knitters, too. Curio cabinets house delicate crystal pieces.

Residents' apartments are spacious. Neutral-toned carpet, walls and window shades provide a palette that is easily personalized by residents. All have walk-in closets and large windows. The main dining room is visually segmented by archways, which create a feeling of there being several smaller dining rooms. The space leads to a patio with a fishpond and walking area. One wing of the first floor contains the majority of the activity areas. The charming country kitchen is always open to residents and has a refrigerator stocked with snacks, coffee, tea and juice. The horticulture room leads to the large garden. Residents plant vegetables and flowers in the beds, many of which are raised for better accessibility. A small putting green adds another above-par touch.

During our tour, we met some of the activities staffers in the bright and spacious activity room; all were cordial and friendly. A large quilt made by residents hangs here. Each section describes the individual contributors in some way; the quilt is a treasured piece. Religious services, including Shabbat and reciting the rosary, also take place here. The highlight of the wing is its movie theater. With a seating capacity of thirty and easy access for wheelchairs, many residents fill up the burgundy velvet seats for the Sunday matinee and evening shows. A popcorn machine and film noir posters add appropriate touches. The second floor game room houses a pool table and chess and checkers tables. The floor also features a small exercise room. Residents with dementia are well cared for and have separate areas such as the locked courtyard. One indoor area contains several reminiscence installations that are themed with items from an office, vanity area, home and nursery. Wedding gowns, army and other service uniforms are all placed within.

We were absolutely impressed by staff camaraderie on our visit, and patience and caring seemed to be the cornerstones of the staff's attitude toward residents. We noted that even the youngest dining room workers, after their shifts were over, were seen discussing school, sports activities or even their prom with residents!
