Located in the heart of historic Doylestown, Briarleaf Nursing and Convalescent is seated at the corner of two tree-lined streets in a quiet residential neighborhood. Originally a hospital, Briarleaf is surrounded by walkways leading to the back of the building where a beautiful gazebo and garden await residents. A large patio and deck reminds one of an outdoor café, although it is enclosed in Plexiglas for safety. During our visit, we walked through a small reception area with very tasteful sofas and end tables, to take a look at residents' bedrooms. They are moderately sized with a bed, nightstand and many personal touches such as desks, photographs and lamps. Windows provide welcome natural light. The bathrooms are quite spacious and have grab bars and call systems for safety. We had the opportunity to observe staff interacting very kindly and respectfully with residents. They were quite busy tending to residents and presented themselves professionally both in manner and appearance. The dining room is very well-lit, particularly considering it is in the basement of the facility. Linen table coverings and napkins add an elegant touch. There is smaller room for activities, which houses arts and crafts supplies and a library nook. Unique features at this facility include in-house dialysis, rehabilitation and hospice services. Another standout aspect of Briarleaf is a unit exclusively for the Russian-speaking population. Here, all staff and residents speak the language and all activities are conducted in Russian!
