Awash in bright blue, Loving Hands Elder Care pulls double duty as an evangelical church on the weekends. Individual potted plants and flowers line the front windowsill of the large activity room. An organ, drums and microphone stand at the ready on a stage to the left of the entrance, with rowed seating for participants to enjoy the show. Across from the stage is a long table with chairs, four of which were occupied by enthusiastic participants enjoying a lively game of bingo. To the rear of the room is a nicely sized living room area with comfy sofas, recliners and a big-screen TV for movie viewing. We met with Frances, the director, who was very warm and caring and seemed quite devoted to the participants. She described the daily menu of activities, which included sing-alongs, bible study, card games and arts and crafts. Participants also potted the aforementioned flowers and houseplants. A local food company provides lunch, and two snacks are offered daily. This new facility is a bit bare-bones at present, but has the direction and potential to develop a great and growing program.
