Set in suburban Haverford, this family-owned facility sits among stately homes and tree-lined streets. An arched driveway overlooks each wing; another leads to a beautifully landscaped, fountain-centered knoll. Seating areas at the main entrance invite friendly gatherings, although residents may be inclined to roam the many winding paths. A greenhouse, hedges and gardens create an Eden within Bryn Mawr's borders. Residents plant their own vegetables and often dine under the shade of an old oak tree.

The interior décor has a colonial influence. Silk flowers, artwork and comfortable furniture fill the lobby. An electric fireplace in the living room creates a perfect spot for late-night hearthside chats. The Octagon Lounge, with its numerous windows and quaint wicker furnishings, offers splendid views for visits with family. Arched windows in the dining room bounce light off several brass chandeliers. Cloth-covered tables with china and glassware make for a pleasant dining experience. Once a week, residents enjoy special selections such as lobster or pizza. A pianist underscores daily cocktail hours with hors d'oeuvres. And on residents' birthdays, a limousine transports them to nearby restaurants.

Fifteen residents, separated by level of functioning, live in spacious rooms and suites, all of which have direct access to the exterior. If needed, Bryn Mawr supplies furnishings, including a bed, dresser, mirror, chair, loveseat and a desk. Spa bathrooms are available by request. Cooking classes, in-house entertainment, religious services and trips into the community accommodate a wide variety of social interests. Pals for Life provides pet visitation.

In association with the assisted living unit, a skilled nursing facility and secure Alzheimer's unit provide varied levels of care. Long-term staff attends to Alzheimer's residents, providing a sense of familiarity. Hand-painted watercolors adorn the walls. A slice of nature indoors is reflected in the second floor "All Season" room, which boasts many large windows. Residents enjoy watching snowfall from this special room, safe and warm away from the winter chill.
