A handwritten sign announced the arrival of six new residents to Sunrise of Blue Bell. We soon learned that these new residents were quite different from everyone else—they were chicks! The adorable hatchlings had just emerged from incubated eggs and were the talk of the neighborhood. This is just one of the types of activities that engages and lends excitement to the population at Blue Bell.

At least five different activities are offered daily, which always includes an outing, an afternoon and an evening social. Traditional activities include arts and crafts, bingo, movies and sing-alongs. There are also resident-hosted clubs—bridge, men's, quilting, decorating and travel. Enjoying nature is an important component of the programming as well. A nicely shaded walking path surrounding the building has views of the neighboring golf course or tennis courts; adequate seating along the way allows for leisurely strolls at any pace. The dementia unit features a secure patio and memory garden of its own, both of which provide sunshine, shade and quiet relaxation.

This attractive facility is built in a half circle and set amid lush landscaping. The covered entrance, flanked by abundant flowers and plantings, paints a welcoming picture. Rocking chairs and benches sit on covered walkways in the front of the building, perfect for enjoying the greenery. A winding staircase greets visitors in the facility's great room. Tasteful furnishings and fresh flowers and plants create a warm environment. Adjacent to the great room is a bistro, library, activity room and one of many sitting rooms—this one decked with comfy couches, a gas fireplace and photograph albums. The newly added 24-hour bistro is set up café-style with intimately grouped tables. There is also an elegant community dining room and a small private dining room, available for special occasions. The appealing lunch menu listed steak, chicken and fish prepared in a variety of ways, and breakfasts of eggs, cereals, muffins, juice and fruit. Snacks are available rround the clock.

Resident rooms are called "suites" with good reason: spacious and airy, they are beautifully decorated and have unique layouts. All have large windows that look out to the woods or scenic golf course.
