The Staten Island Expressway is only a block away from Golden Gate Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. A large granite and wood desk commands visitors' attention when entering the facility. The upscale lobby features neutral-colored tiles, soft lamplight, gold-framed art and upholstered furnishings. The warmth of the fireplace draws frequent company. Residents moderately sized rooms are well-lit and feature sturdy wood furnishings. In the colorful dining room, rich mustard-colored walls are trimmed with a playful border of caricatural chefs donning their signature hats. Glass window displays arranged with numerous food items aid staff members in the nutritional counseling program. Cozy dayrooms located on each floor accommodate resting and socializing. The activity room boasts a fully equipped kitchen used for baking and cooking activities. The expansive furnished patio sees a lot of traffic on warm days. Monthly family barbecues are a big summer favorite! Residents' animated demeanors are thanks in part, perhaps, to Golden Gate's varied activity calendar. Offerings include cooking, arts and crafts, monthly birthday parties, yoga, gardening, computer classes, men's and women's clubs and movie hour. Once in a while, ferry rides to Manhattan and trips to local parks are added to the already busy schedule. In the lobby, we overheard a group of residents complimenting the staff: all of them agreed that they were lucky to have such a friendly and caring bunch!
