The delightful garden of small trees and shrubbery presents a natural border between the sidewalk and Flushing Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation. A blue awning shades wooden benches near the entry. Beige wallpaper complements the wooden floors and tiled ceilings in the cozy lobby, where the warmth of the fireplace often attracts many more residents than the prettily decorated area can accommodate! The main activity area, equipped with both a TV and piano, is more suitable for larger groups. Simple touches like silk floral arrangements and framed paintings impart elegance to the green-walled room. We witnessed several residents enjoying the lively aquarium at the nursing station. Wheelchair users have ample space in the broad halls. Large windows in the dayrooms usher in lots of natural light, while fluorescent lighting prevails in dimmer areas. Few residents were in their rooms at the time of our visit; most were in the common areas patiently waiting for the next activity to begin. One unique feature at Flushing Manor is its forty-bed Korean unit, where the majority of staff members and residents are Korean, allowing these residents to maintain a close-knit community. We spoke to one resident's spouse while we waited. She complimented the staff's care of her husband, speaking about the progress he'd made since moving in, and expressing appreciation for the friend who had recommended Flushing Manor.
