Cliffside Rehabilitation and Residential Health Care Center soars high above sea level, boasting glorious views of Flushing Bay and the Manhattan skyline. Prominent signage in English and Chinese reflects the facility's diverse population. The quiet neighborhood is enhanced by the distant sounds of seagulls and planes flying into and out of LaGuardia. Earthy browns and beige infuse the walls and tiled floors inside. Soundproof windows allow residents to visit with one another in a quiet and comfortable seating area while enjoying princely views of the airport. Residents' rooms are brightly painted in yellows and oranges. Oversized windows let in lots of daylight. Each room has a copy of the monthly activity calendar. The third floor accommodates Cliffside's large Chinese population and thus features activities and meals that cater to these residents' preferences. Although each floor has its own dining and activity area, the main activity room is outfitted with a piano, a bright aquarium and ample seating. Fresh flowers perfume the air in the dayrooms. The sun-filled therapy room features a cheerful wallpaper design of light blue skies, white clouds and a lighthouse that goes nicely with the bay view outside. The halls were decked with photos of former short-term residents who had returned home; we thought it was a great way to encourage current residents in therapy. The outdoor patio is amply furnished. Green-thumbed residents look forward to the summer, when planters are available for personal gardening. Pet and music therapies are a couple of other favorites! We were impressed with Cliffside's staff members, who exuded enthusiasm and energy. The high staff-to-resident ratio allows ample and individualized rehabilitative care. Cliffside is also equipped with separate ventilator and dialysis units.
