A bit of the Floridian penchant for beige and pink stucco is evident in Menorah Home's facade. Its location facing Manhattan Beach augments the summertime feel. Triangular glass atriums loom over both sides of the lobby; three sets of glass walls on one side form an indoor seating area. With its wood lattice ceiling, silk flower arrangements, wood and upholstered chairs, incandescent lighting and revolving electric doors, the lobby is a pleasant mix of both old and new. Resident rooms have built-in Formica furniture with matching nightstands and wood bed frames. The dining rooms are surrounded by windows; transparent shades softly filter the natural light. The yellow and beige walls with matching tile floors are perked up by large colorful posters. A wood partition separates the dining and activities areas. Although cozy loveseats and artwork make the seating areas on each floor welcoming, the beach-facing patio that extends from these rooms is the real treat. Each floor also features a TV room with comfy upholstered chairs. The arts and crafts studio boasts a kiln and an art gallery where residents' pieces are displayed. A small game room off the lobby hosts slot machines and a computer. The home's large auditorium with a baby grand piano is used for dinner and holiday parties. In the front of the building, a canopy strung between the decorative columns shades the seating area below. The adjacent patio overlooking the water is dotted with benches and chairs. Lampposts line the walking path that runs along the water and past the building. An enclosed courtyard extends another invitation to the outdoors. On our visit, we noted that the residents were animated and social. We also met a nurse whose brother was a resident; she spoke very highly of the care and physical therapy her brother was receiving. There are four physicians on premises during working hours and for four hours on weekends. The facility is equipped to care for residents with tracheotomies and feeding tubes.
