The glass canopy over the entrance is a contemporary addition to the otherwise classic brick facility. Situated on East Gun Hill Road, Kings Harbor Multicare Center offers quiet respite in a clean and safe neighborhood. Adjacent to the main facility, an annex houses the two secured Alzheimer's units. New brown armchairs and a comfortable sofa are complemented by beige-patterned carpeting in the main lobby. Residents' rooms, furnished with light wood armoires and nightstands, get lots of natural light. Rooms in the Pavilion, the facility's short-term unit, are cheerful, with rose-colored bedspreads, matching wallpaper, drapes and soft artificial lighting. Pavilion residents are noticeably more independent; many maneuver on their own in wheelchairs. During our lunchtime visit, we observed residents socializing over their meals. The atmosphere was lively—one effervescent staff member even sang while serving the meals! The dining room features fresh flower arrangements atop prettily dressed tables. The short-term, long-term and Alzheimer's units all feature enclosed patios. Sunlight streams in through the glass wall in the spacious main patio. During the winter months, residents frequently socialize in a comfortable indoor seating area. The common area, with its big-screen TV, is another popular spot. An aquarium adds a bright touch. Most residents in the Alzheimer's unit are in the advanced stages of dementia. Kings Harbor Multicare Center is a great place for residents who are fairly self-sufficient and eager to interact with one another. The activity program lists old favorites such as word games, movement to music, walking, puzzles, sight and sound recognition, floor hockey, exercise, relaxation and sensory stimulation. As we took our leave, we were pleased to overhear one staff member express her excitement about admitting a relative to the King Harbor community—one of the strongest recommendations you can get!
