Two adjoining brick buildings house Judith Lynn Assisted Living on quiet Waring Avenue. A wide balcony hugs the third story of the newer building. We passed a group of residents on their way out as we entered the lobby, where we received a warm welcome. The facility was being remodeled at the time of our visit. We stopped by one of the facility's many lounges, which featured comfy sofas, armchairs and beautiful flower arrangements. A round table hosted a lively card game. The pink, green and beige color scheme is complemented by the floral pictures adorning the walls. A TV and a bookcase stocked with reading materials provide entertainment options in the lounge.

Residents enjoy homey, spacious rooms. Those in the newer building boast attractive furnishings. Different décor is featured on every floor; the forest green carpeting and beige wallpaper with floral borders reminded us of a blooming outdoor garden! Colorful bedspreads add cheer to the hospital beds. Some of the bathrooms boast bathtubs.

Residents filed neatly into the pretty dining room, where they socialized in groups as staff served appetizing vegetable soup, frankfurters, baked beans and fresh fruit. A striking African floral design accents one wall; another is covered with mirrors. One resident requested a second helping of soup and we were touched when a staff member insisted on carrying it for her out of concern that she might burn herself!

Several residents were busy in the activity room with arts and crafts. The spacious concrete patio is a welcome retreat in warm weather. A women's club, men's club and knitting club convene regularly. The activity calendar lists karaoke, tai chi, baking, jewelry making, musical chairs, creative arts and outings to restaurants and shopping destinations. One resident cited the food and people as the best parts of living at Judith Lynn; another told us that she enjoyed the friendships she has formed with staff and other residents.
