The Tunnell Center, formerly known as the Nob Hill Healthcare Center, located near St. Francis Hospital, is a bustling facility focused primarily on short-term rehabilitative care. Nob Hill is part of a national network of long-term care providers who specialize in a full range of care. A professional team develops a comprehensive treatment plan in conjunction with the patient's physician. Respite care is available to help families take much-needed breaks. Special care is offered for dementia clients, including twenty-four-hour visitation and guest meals. There might be as many as five rehabilitation specialists working at one time in the treatment center. A full range of therapies is provided including physical, occupational and speech; optometry, podiatry, and art and music therapy are offered as well. Dental and x-ray services are on-site. Counseling, crisis intervention and spiritual support are available as needed. Adding to this unique array of services are money management, discharge planning, nutritionist, and dieticians. It is truly a full-service facility. The building was recently renovated, and boasts state-of-the-art features that are as aesthetically pleasing as they are functional and convenient. The furniture is new, as are the carpeting and wallpaper, which create color-coordinated rooms that are pleasing to the eye. The dining area is pleasant and inviting. The menu features mainly Asian choices, and lots of vegetables. A salad bar is available with meals. Substitutions can be made. Each floor has a common room, filled with books, a TV, VCR, radio, ice maker and microwave oven, for rest and recreation. A large terrace is comfortably furnished. Besides the usual choice of activity of arts, crafts, music and games, Nob Hill Healthcare Center has a holistic activity program which offers guided mediation, stress and pain reduction, aromatherapy and massage. The staff brings in pets from time to time, for pet therapy, which the residents thoroughly enjoy.
