Jewish Home is like a city unto itself. There's almost no need to leave this sprawling, nine-acre campus because it offers just about everything, from private rehabilitation rooms, to a synagogue, to a garden café and a boutique. Certain aspects of its historic charm are to remain, including the original red brick entrance, which is flanked by stately Roman pillars. In stark contrast to this old-world style, yet equally attractive, is the very modern Friedman Pavilion. During the day, it is flooded with light from the plentiful atriums, skylights and surrounding windows. Sculpture dots the beautifully landscaped grounds, which provide an excellent location for a stroll with family and friends. A lovely synagogue holds weekly services. A fixture in the long-term care community since 1923, Jewish Home boasts the brand-new Barbara and Richard Rosenberg Family Center—the spacious and contemporary center will house many of the main services of Jewish Home, including a modern kitchen. Highlights of the new center are its light-filled creative arts center, synagogue, medical clinics and a lovely garden café. The wellness center will function as the central meeting place, where residents can exercise on state-of-the-art exercise equipment. A long floor-to-ceiling glass passageway connects the center to the heart of Jewish Home. There are twelve distinct units at Jewish Home providing graduated levels of care, including a separate dementia section. The rooms are spacious and most are private. Each unit has its own activity room and dining room. The facility kitchen is kosher. Residents are spirited and engaged. The activity choices are seemingly endless—choices include book clubs, exercise, gardening, current events, word and card games, music and entertainment and movies. There is a separate art room for painting, drawing and crafts. The facility hosts a pets-in-residence program, which adds unequaled cheer and affection. The staff is professional, friendly, and very involved with the residents. They receive extensive continuing education on many topics related to health and aging. Some speak Russian, Hebrew or Yiddish.
