The owners of Hayes Convalescent Hospital run a hands-on operation; they are involved in every aspect of the facility, and have been since its inception. "Stability" is the key word here. Continuous remodeling on the building has made it up-to-date and high functioning. Although it is institutional and simple in appearance, there are nevertheless elements that add cheer, such as the prints on the walls. An outdoor sitting area with a variety of flowers and shrubbery is a surprising oasis. The lighting is quite good, especially in residents' rooms, where oversized windows or sliding glass doors allow natural light in. A friendly housecat roams the halls and rooms. The standards for cleanliness are very high and the kitchen is immaculate. Hallways are free of clutter, making it easy to maneuver, even for individuals who use wheelchairs. The dining room doubles as the activity space. The environment at Hayes Convalescent Hospital is calm and low-key. Staff members are patient and responsive to residents' needs. While some of the residents are frail, others are alert and participating in a range of activities. All seemed quite happy and well cared for. The activity director often brings outside groups to add diversity to the offerings. Religious services of various denominations are brought in regularly.
