Ambassador Garden is situated on a small street edged with elms. Gray trim accentuates the pink building. The Reseda neighborhood is slightly rundown, but the facility offers safe, quality care. Wood floors, a wall of mirrors and a colorful aquarium line the entrance to the lobby, which houses several wingback chairs for waiting visitors. To the left of the lobby is a living room containing comfortable sofas, a big-screen TV and several bookshelves stocked with reading material. The second floor houses the gym, which contains several stationary bikes as well as a pool table. Dark blue carpet with floral embellishments covers the floor. In the adjacent library, leather couches offer cozy seating spots in which to curl up with a good book or visit with friends. Residents are often involved in activities including bingo, arts and crafts, card games, discussion groups and outings to area destinations.

The dining room is bright and colorful, with green or pink-and-white tablecloths covering tables that seat four. Peach walls and tile floors complete the cheerful décor. Overhead fans keep things airy. The day of our visit, residents had a choice of chicken parmesan, turkey or fish for dinner. Alternatives such as sandwiches are always available, with no prior notice required.

Resident rooms are very large, carpeted and painted a pale color; rooms are re-painted (and sometimes re-carpeted) when a new resident moves in. Residents are welcome to personalize their rooms in any way they choose. Light wood furniture, and some rooms with balconies are additional features. Residents often utilize the facility's beautiful enclosed courtyard. With its many trees, potted plants, grassy areas, fountain and benches, the courtyard is reminiscent of—and a lot more convenient than—a neighborhood park.
