The facility is located off a busy urban street and has an interesting and somewhat industrial facade: dark glass double doors are surrounded by beige stucco, which is then hemmed in by brick trim. Above the doors, a sign made from corrugated steel reads "Pacoima Adult Day Health Care" in bright blue and red. The door is locked; a receptionist therefore greets visitors personally. Inside, brown carpet and cream walls take a neutral approach to the color scheme, whereas the long rectangular tables in the main room are covered in pink and blue plastic tablecloths. Artwork hangs on the walls. Couches and a large kitchen help make the space homey. A few smaller rooms flank the main area. Cleanliness and warmth in the décor was primary, and as we toured, we noted staffers' gracious treatment of participants. During our visit, a big birthday party was in full swing. A deejay had been brought in and the main room was festively decorated with colorful balloons and crepe-paper streamers. The birthday honorees were wearing crowns. The music was quite loud, but participants, who were dancing to the music, seemed immersed in the business of having some fun. Other activities include a daily current events program where participants can bring in topic ideas or newspaper articles that they think will spark discussion. Individual physical therapy is offered daily, too, in the well-equipped therapy room. One small room has a pool table. Favored activities include bowling, dominoes, karaoke, playing Monopoly, and watching shows or movies on the big-screen TV.
