This gray and white brick building is set back from the street. Inside, one wall is covered with various certificates of achievement that the program has received. Wood flooring leads into the large dining room, where white tablecloths and flower arrangements add elegance. A large stage in this room is used for musical performances and plays. The spacious entertainment room is neatly organized with moveable closets that store board games and other activity supplies. Northeast Valley Multipurpose Senior Center focuses on nutrition and positive changes that can be made to a person's diet. Discussions and lectures involve topics such as the importance of eating whole grains and five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, and why baking is better than frying. A table is set with foodstuffs for presentations. The exercise program includes the use of stability balls, group stretching, walks, chair exercises and line dancing. Outings take place regularly and while trips to museums or area gardens are common, those to casinos are far more popular! Many participants were engaged in needlework on our visit or playing various board games. Many of the staff members attend the same church, and it seems to inform their rapport with each other and participants in a positive manner. The staff is quite large; a number of offices can be found in the building. As we toured, we noted that everyone seemed to be busily working away.
