Alta Bates Summit Adult Day Health Care is located in the North Oakland "Pill Hill" area, between Telegraph Avenue and Broadway Avenue. Participants assemble in the spacious common area, which is fully furnished. Although art and activity supplies are visible in every corner of the room, staff manages to keep the space neat. Plentiful windows usher in lots of natural light. The exercise and activity rooms are adjacent to the main area. The high staff-to-participant ratio facilitates more one-on-one attention. Alta Bates Summit focuses on the safety of participants at all times. Those who wander towards the exits are protected by sensor alarms and locks at the entrances and exits. During our visit, participants and staff were gathered in a large square discussing current events. This specialized program tailors the activity calendar to accommodate participants with varying degrees of dementia; cognitive stimulation is the core of the program.Extended hours are available for an additional fee. Door-to-door pick up service can also be arranged.
