Alta Bates Summit Adult Day Health Care is located on "Pill Hill" in North Oakland, an area that is home to numerous doctors' offices and other health-related facilities. An oasis between bustling Telegraph Avenue and Broadway Avenue, the adult day health care is conveniently situated on the south end of the medical center's campus. The interior is comfortably furnished with plush high-back chairs. The common area is utilized for both meal service and group activities; the cozy layout facilitates interaction between participants. A lack of natural light makes the room fairly dim; however, decorative wall fixtures and soft fluorescent lighting impart a nice homey feel. The rehabilitation room features various specialized equipment such as parallel bars, which are instrumental in strength and balance therapy. Speech evaluations are available onsite as well. Participants at Alta Bates Summit appear to be an independent group. We observed traces of an arts and crafts activity that were left on the table as participants stepped outside for short breaks. The staff was attentive and engaging.
