Marymount Greenhills' red tile roofs, landscaped courtyards, adobe architecture, and beautifully tiled long corridors all reflect California's Spanish heritage. Located on a hillside in a residential neighborhood, the two interconnected buildings house 158 apartments, many of which have balconies, patios, or gardens that boast views of San Francisco Bay. Some of the rooms are quite small, although the rents for those rooms are more economical. Two owls appear to have joined the community years ago, making their home in a pair of palm trees believed to be over three hundred years old. The melodic pealing of a vesper bell from a neighboring Catholic church is a sudden reminder that we are back in the present.

Close to shopping, banking, churches and medical facilities, residents of the center find it easy to continue their involvement in community life. Guests are always welcome. Pets under forty pounds are welcome, too. Activities offered on campus include chair dancing, sing-alongs, tai chi, and the ever-popular bingo. Meditation classes are on the schedule, reflecting the population's growing interest on the subject. All of this, plus a tradition of staff members sometimes staying at the facility, promotes a palpable sense of community.

The food is quite appealing—varied, aromatic and delicious. One resident voiced her appreciation for the crab cakes; another inviting choice is the chicken Creole.
