Sunray Healthcare Center is located in a rough neighborhood but is monitored by 24-hour security cameras. The brick building is clean and inconspicuous. Colorful flowers brighten the side entrance. The patio, filled with umbrella-topped tables and a few potted plants, looks cozy. Yellow French doors lead into the lobby, with high ceilings and brick walls painted beige. Leather couches and burgundy and gold Victorian chairs surround a dark wood coffee table. An antique chandelier illumines the laminate wood flooring in the lobby. A hanging tapestry in earth tones warms the patterned wallpaper. Potted plants add vibrancy to the room. During our tour, residents and staff appeared to be in great spirits. Two men were reading newspapers in the lobby when we entered, and they look relaxed and at home. The admissions coordinator was very outgoing and demonstrated a wonderful bond with everyone we encountered. She complimented one woman on her sequined blouse, and the resident glowed with pride and appreciation. We also met the resident council president, who has lived at the facility for eight and a half years and was thrilled to give us her personal recommendation. The bedrooms are simple and moderately sized; all are nicely decorated. Dark pink bedding matches the window treatments. The dining area doubles as an activity room and has laminate flooring, high ceilings and a large chandelier. In addition to arts and crafts, current events discussions and exercise, the activity schedule includes a monthly candlelit dinner.
