The facility looks charming from the outside, with blue canvas awnings shading the windows and the main entrance. A wide strip of green lawn separates the center from the one-way street dotted with small businesses. Palm trees interspersed with plants trim the building's exterior. Two potted ficus trees flank the entrance. As parking is at a premium, free valet service is available. The double glass doors open to a chandelier-lit center hall with blue and ivory accents and beautiful wood floors. Here, a quaint interior courtyard is covered with tile floors, table sets and removable nylon shades. Everyone here loves to idle outside, but it's also tempting to stay indoors when activities are taking place. Daily exercise, games, reminiscing, arts and crafts, sing-alongs and movies are standard; special treats include birthday celebrations and visits from outside entertainers. Shoppers will be thrilled to find The Grove (a shopping mall) and a farmer's market just a few blocks from Sharon Care Center. When residents are inclined, transportation is arranged to take them to the mall or to a local ice cream shop. The facility doors are locked at night. Residents who tend to roam wear security bracelets, but frequent wanderers are encouraged to find a facility with a stronger monitoring system. Staffing varies, as some therapists and doctors work as consultants. The majority of residents stay short-term. In the near future, Medicare, Medi-Cal and long-term residents will not be accepted, but those who have been around for years needn't move. Staff encourages residents to personalize their hospital-style rooms with photographs and other mementos. The facility caters to the mainly Jewish population by serving kosher-style food, which isn't strictly kosher but loosely adheres to Jewish dietary laws. The facility has the expertise of a full-time dietary supervisor, and also employs a part-time registered dietician. Two dining rooms double as activity rooms. Although there isn't an official private dining room, the smaller dining room can be reserved for gatherings with family.
