At the front of the facility, greenery and young sunflowers extend from the confines of a round brick-enclosed island. Just beyond the small garden, a green awning marks the building's entrance. The facility exhibits the best of both worlds, with its location on a main street and proximity to a quaint residential neighborhood. When US Healthcare bought Guardian Rehabilitation Hospital five years ago, a complete remodeling infused the building with new life. In the cozy lobby, two chandeliers illuminate the elegant cream-colored furniture. A large, leafy centerpiece cascading with white, pink and lavender flowers brightens the space even further. The administrator, whose family once owned the facility, has an office adjacent to the entrance. The dining room is sectioned into two areas, one for meals and one for activities. At the time of our tour, residents were enjoying lunch. The food appeared appetizing, with selections like chicken stir-fry, frittatas and vegetable quiche. Pictures of residents, crafts and bulletin boards hang in the activity section. When not exercising or playing games like trivia and bingo, residents enjoy bowling and other trips into the community. Bedside activities allow everyone to partake in the fun. On Fridays, some residents attend Jewish services conducted by a local rabbi. Green and floral accents enhance residents' rooms. Rooms with more than two beds don't leave too much space for stretching, but all are clean and tasteful with good-sized windows. For a little elbow room, residents often retreat to the small patio, which features shaded seating and colorful blooms.
