This facility is located on Fairfax Avenue, a busy thoroughfare. The neighborhood is rather plain save for the evergreen trees lining the street. A palm tree stands to one side of the facility, along with some geraniums and a jade tree. The building is beige stucco with a beige canvas awning across the front. Steps lead to the main entrance alongside a ramp for wheelchair users. Inside, the polished wood floor has an embedded star design. The admissions coordinator's office and nurses' station sit on one side of the entrance. A lounge area is sparsely furnished, but does have a big-screen TV. The spacious therapy room is equipped for all kinds of rehabilitation. Another area doubles as an activity and dining room and contains a lovely wooden credenza; the small room is brightened by artificial flowers and has a view onto the outdoor patio. There are two patios, one smaller than the other. Both have a few potted plants and plenty of seating, and some common areas lead directly out to them. Residents' rooms are comfortably sized and have plain, albeit durable, furniture. Some rooms look out onto one of the patios, while others have a less spectacular view of the street or the building side. Some rooms have showers, but all residents use the larger bathing areas down the hall with staff attending to them. Residents range in age from seventy to ninety; most are long-term residents and are for the most part sedentary. Activities, therefore, include card or board games. Driving excursions are commonplace as most residents enjoy a change of scenery now and then. The admission coordinator who guided our tour introduced to all of the staffers we passed. She knew all the residents by name and had a kind word to say to most, beyond simply greeting them. Everyone seemed friendly and cheery. We also noted that staff members were immersed in their work and willing to help in any situation. For safety, doors are locked after visiting hours.
