Country Villa Health Services, which opened in 1969, has fifty healthcare facilities providing rehabilitation, subacute care, Alzheimer's care, skilled nursing and assisted living. Country Villa South Healthcare Center sits in close proximity to its sister assisted living building on a busy thoroughfare. Apartment buildings, restaurants and many small businesses share the area. Our tour revealed a caring, attentive staff. The facility's administrator, our tour guide, stopped to compliment one resident on her beautiful complexion. Since the resident had problems with her skin in the past, she appeared truly touched by the observation. We noticed many residents either in bed or sitting in wheelchairs, some appearing a bit introverted. However, staff members were willing and eager to engage them in conversation. Residents responded positively to this interaction. Several were sitting and chatting in the activity room, which hosts bingo, card games and movies. Birthday celebrations and ice cream socials always generate excitement. Trained professionals conduct physical, occupational and speech therapies in a separate therapy room. Accommodations, small but comfy-looking, have privacy curtains and matching bed and window treatments. Most of the interior, including the two dining rooms, is very clean. The private family room, often used for meals with family members, incorporates greater aesthetics, with a lovely wooden table, tasteful curtains and paintings. A patio with potted plants provides a nice place to stretch and take in some fresh air.
