Thanks to a recent remodel, Alcott Rehabilitation Hospital has a new look and lots of residential charm. Safely nestled within a slice of suburbia, the facility is surrounded by bushes, trees and big, pretty homes. The patio resembles a quaint garden, with abundant greenery and a flower pot overflowing with red, pink and orange buds. Benches and a swing punctuate the flora. The lobby décor is soft and pristine. Two floral-patterned sofas flank a mahogany china cabinet, filled with delicate blue and white pieces. Floral curtains make even the automatic door attractive. In a second lobby at the facility's center, large potted plants stretch tall and wide, invigorating the space. The east and west wings are decorated identically. Light floral wallpaper complements the white, pink and light green tile floors. Resident rooms are clean and spacious. The dining room, also used for activities, is beautifully appointed and awash in blue. High ceilings open up the room. Residents read books or relax in front of the big-screen TV. A bulletin board lists the daily activities, which include exercise, educational programs, games and religious services. When we visited, residents had just eaten lunch and appeared relaxed and content. A dietician visits the facility weekly, helping residents make appropriate choices from the menu, which serves Korean fare.
