Hollywood Royale Guest Home is located in a slightly run-down neighborhood in the heart of Hollywood. Balconies jut out from the pink building. Inside, the reception area is much warmer, with its tile floors, small aquarium, wooden table and floral wallpaper. Carpeted hallways leading to residents' rooms are cheered by the Van Gogh reproductions on the walls. Most rooms are carpeted and have a balcony. All are quite spacious and hold a bed, end tables, nightstand and lamps, which the facility provides.

Four lounges all have leather couches, a TV and plants. The activity room is furnished with round wood tables and matching chairs. The dining room is large and is sectioned off by a movable wall. Flooring is green tile. A floral print makes an appearance in the vinyl tablecloths and wallpaper borders, and four-person tables are ringed by mauve chairs. Alternatives are posted one hour before meals; residents are asked to put in their order for alternatives, which are usually sandwiches or fruit plates, at that time. Most meals center on chicken or fish. Two round tables are shaded by umbrellas in the lovely cemented patio. Potted plants add a great deal of greenery. An enclosed smoking room features park-like benches. Residents enjoy mostly sedentary activities such as bingo, coffee socials and watching movies—although outings are scheduled occasionally.

The administrator who led our tour has worked at the facility for twenty-eight years. She is undeniably dedicated to the residents and her job. As we toured, we noted that residents and staffers had a friendly rapport with each other. The familial feeling seemed right in line with the quaint, down-to-earth surroundings and amenities offered.
